Snapdragon is a medium-high level herb. It is used to make super restore potions. Since it is only dropped by random event Tree Spirits, Snapdragon can be hard to come by.

Many players either use the Agility Arena or grow their own herbs by Farming, although a small amount comes from the Prison Pete random event, Gnome Restaurant minigame or as a possible reward for burning vyre corpses in Paterdomus.

Snapdragon fertilizer recommendations?

Can someone please tell me what fertilizer number ratio to use for my snapdragons. You know, Nitrogen-Phosphate-Potash. I have been using water soluble Miracle Gro Bloom Booster flower food for all of my other flowers. It's ratio is 10-52-10. They are all doing super, but I have been unsure about using it on my snaps. Is it OK to use on them and if not, what should I use? I have never had so much difficulty in finding info on anything as with a recommended fertilizer for snaps. Just give me some numbers! Don't know if it matters, but I live in Pennsylvania.

Snapdragon fertilizer recommendations?
Yes go ahead %26amp; use it. It's formulated to promote more blooms by feeding through both the roots %26amp; leaves. Printed on the box :"It is guaranteed not to burn %26amp; is safe for all plants, when used as directed."

The recommendations for snaps are: " a general purpose fertilizer before planting if the soil is poor."http://www.gardenersnet.com/flower...

"Fertilize every 2 weeks with an all-purpose fertilizer for best growth. Keep the soil moderately moist."http://www.lavocatsnursery.com/Sn...

Since you probably don't know how fertile your soil is, why not use it? My neighbor uses it on her flowers %26amp; they're beautiful, so... I just bought some for my flowering plants, too. LOL :)

P.S. It says 1 Tablsp in a gallon of water, but I'm using 1 Tablsp in my 2 gallon watering can.

I have noticed that ants have been stealing my snapdragon seeds.?

Seriously I've seen ants going in and out of the thing that holds the seeds. So does anyone else have this problem or has heard of it? Im not sure if they are eating them, but I do know that they are taking them form me. Which sucks cause I like to scatter the seeds in other areas.

I have noticed that ants have been stealing my snapdragon seeds.?
If the ants are taking the seeds then they are indeed eating them . Your best two options are either buy an ant killer , which if you have children or pets , may not be the best option , or start the flowers in containers and tranfer them later . I have had do this as they will sometimes steal all the seeds Ive sown .
Reply:i had that problem to i use a liquid ant killer called terro u can get at a local garden shop place a drop on or around the flower they will eat that and it will kill em off

I'm looking for a tree that is puple like the lilic, but looks like the snapdragon, reseeds as a pod. help?

I think the tree you are talking about is the Royal Paulownia or Empress tree. It is also sometimes called the Princess tree. They are a native of China. They grow very rapidly, which is why I planted mine. I have a lovely shade tree now, w/gorgeous purple snapdragon flowers that smell heavenly. The flowers appear before the leaves of the tree, which is vey unusual. My husband built a deck around the truck %26amp; I have some chairs, a table and my garden swing under it. I bought mine from an ad in the Sunday magazine section of the newspaper. I've seen them advertised recently. The only thing that may be a consideration for you is when the flowers fall to the ground it can be quite messy. Ditto for it's huge leaves in the fall. I found both things a small price to pay for such beauty. I've had mine 27 years and do not regret a moment.

Do I need to dead-head the dried blossoms on snapdragon plans?

Yes, if you want them to keep blooming. Deadheading also keeps them from getting long and scraggly.

Do I need to dead-head the dried blossoms on snapdragon plans?
yes. the plant sets it's energy to making seed if you don't deadhead. If you deadhead, the plant will try to make seed again (by blossoming).

snaps are cool weather plants so they are available in winter spring more than late summer. You'll have to have a florist order them for you. Most of our florist flowers are shipped in from around the world....give the florist a couple day's notice at least.

How seaworthy is a Snapdragon 27 and any other info you maye know about one?

Jason,

Keep in mind that a moderately seaworthy craft in the hands of a sailor is far superior to a highly seaworthy craft in the hands of an amateur. Lots of people have been stranded, sunk, killed, injured and maimed because of lack of knowledge and experience, and because they thought that they knew "enough."

Be careful.

Regards,

Dan

How seaworthy is a Snapdragon 27 and any other info you maye know about one?
Snapdragons were designed a long time ago, and would not compare with a modern boat in speed and comfort. Probably strongly built originally, so safe enough in most weather if the skipper and crew know what they are doing - but who knows what condition any boat is in - get it surveyed.
Reply:Not very helpful answers so far so.....

Snapdragons were built on Canvey Island in various guises and were mostly solidly built, often for home completion inside. No fancy lightweight sandwich construction makes them quite long lasting as boats and you can go a long way in a 27. Obviously not as fast as a 30 footer or more but quite roomy inside for a mere 27 foot and a choice of fin keel or the more popular bilge keels. Sailing on the East Coast of UK is fraught with mud banks and shallow creeks so bilge keelers are very popular there. Almost as large as you can comfortably tow with a decent vehicle. We took a 26 over to Holland, Belgium, France, Channel Islands and once came back into a force 7 across the channel. Boat handled it well, it was we who took the battering through hard work and lack of sleep.
Reply:I would not dare to comment upon a particular craft without actually seeing it and would not buy never mind take to sea without a full Marine Surveyor's inspection and report.

How to properly prune snapdragon flowers?

I have my front flower bed full of snapdragons. They are now fully bloomed and are approx 24 inches tall. They are starting to overtake the flower bed. Can you explain to me when is the proper time to prune, how or where should I cut on the stem, and how much should I cut them back to help them grown or bloom again faster.

How to properly prune snapdragon flowers?
dead head them that encourages new growth if flowers i never prune only new seeds every year, cutting is no problem with these hardy plants
Reply:As your snapdragons bloom, pinch dieing flowers off. Once the bottom 2/3 - 3/4 of the stem has bloomed and died, cut off the whole flower stem to the leaves. If they're already seeding, don't worry, deadhead anyway. As you do, you'll get more and more flower shoots that will bloom into late fall. Report It

Well you dont have to but I would go ahead and do it. I live in the desert southwest and snap dragons will winter over here, but they also will self seed. I love them ! Enjoy your beautiful flowers.
Reply:Snapdragons are my favorite flower. We used to have them growing in our gardens. We never had to dead-head the dried blossoms. We just let them grow naturally, and they always looked beautiful.

They are red, I wouldn't see why not. Definitely humming birds, likely butterflies too.
Reply:Butterfly bushes, holly hocks, lily's, apple tree and apricot tree blossoms.

I have never seen a hummingbird at a snap dragon blossom, but the bee's love them.
Reply:Not necessarily, but they are great flowers and not, of course, all of them red. There are red, yellow, white, pink, orchid, and orange ones as well. Most insects attracted to bright colours will like these.

How to plant a snapdragon?

I bought a snapdragon plant because it was cute but there was no little card with the planting instructions. Anyone know what the little feller would like? Full sun? Shade? Wet or dry ?

How to plant a snapdragon?
Plant it in a sunny area. I remember a few years back I purchased some snapdragons and planted them where it was shady, they didn't do so well there. Basically they require neutral pH, average moisture, and well drained soil. The only true maintenance needed with snapdragons would be cutting the plants back and watering deeply in the summer heat after flowers fade.
Reply:Choose a well-drained garden location that receives at least 6-8 hours of full sun each day. Loosen soil to a dept of 12 inches and rake smooth.

For earliest bloom, start seeds indoors in a sunny window using peat pots filled with seed-starting mix, 6-8 weeks before planting outdoors. Harden off seedlings 2 weeks before final planting. Move outdoors into partial shade. Bring indoors at night. Gradually move into direct sunlight. Do not allow seedlings to dry out. Transplant into the garden after danger of frost is passed.

When direct planting outside, mix small seeds with dry sand and press gently in soil without covering them. Sand helps you see to sow properly and melts away when watered.

Water the garden if dry, making sure it receives at least 1 inch of water weekly.

Flowering Season: Spring to early summer, fall

Light Requirements: Sun to partial shade

Days to Germination: 10-15

Flower Color: Lavender, orange, pink, red, yellow, white

Height: 6 to 36 inches

Spacing: 6 to 10 inches

Planting Depth: 1/16 inch

Comments: Low drought tolerance
Reply:I was going to give you a funny answer. I love them, they are easy plants to grow. They like full sun but will do okay in partial shade. They like to be watered normally but do tolerate dry conditions and will grow in fairly poor soil. Of course they do better in good soil. They are extremely hardy and can be found still alive under a light snow. They are self-seeding so if you let them go to seed they will come up year after year in the same area. They will grow through cracks in a side-walk if given the chance. They come in many colours and in several sizes. An easy plant for beginners to start with and can fill in an area where it is hard to grow other plants.
Reply:Full sun/partial shade and well drained soil, they are not at all fussy, and will flower all summer.

Do I really need to sow my Larkspur and Snapdragon seeds?

Were making a nice big flower garden this year, and i just bought some larkspur and snapdragon seeds. It says i should sow them inside for 6-8 weeks before planting. But do i need to? I hope its not to late for them. Oh, and frosting is over here. there is no more frost. what should i do with these seeds?

Do I really need to sow my Larkspur and Snapdragon seeds?
If I were you and if you have the room, start them indoors and transplant them later, maybe even next spring. You don't have to have a greenhouse and it'll give you better success. If you understand seeds, you know that you might not see anything from them until next spring.
Reply:Seeds generally take awhile to grow. If you wanted to start from seed you should have started them, like they said, inside at least a month ago. The growing season is just too short for them to actually get to the flowering stage before fall. You would be better off buying plants at this point and maybe try the seeds next year. There are all kinds of websites to give you info an how and when to start seeds. Different seeds have different times and ways of starting. See below for some good sites. Good luck!

The offspring from a cross between a red snapdragon and a white snapdragon are pink. How is this possible?

All of the offspring resulting frin a cross between a red snapdragon and a white snapdragon are pink. What is a possible explanation for this?

The offspring from a cross between a red snapdragon and a white snapdragon are pink. How is this possible?
I'm not totally sure on this, just guessing what my mum has told me, and seeing how she gardens a lot, I'll assume it's true: The red and white seeds can grow together, to form a hybrid, adding a percentage of both colors to form pink. Hope it helps!
Reply:red and white makes pink.
Reply:Probably same reason a White man and a Black woman will have children that are Brown like they more Hispanic. Mix the same amount of Red paint with White paint and see what color it turns. IF, you want a lighter pink snapdragon, cross a white and pink. IF, you want a darker pink, cross red with pink. This how they have the many different Colors of all types of flowers.
Reply:it depends on which trait is the dominating trait, all that you have to do is to create a punnette square.
Reply:Like any organism that uses DNA, there are two strands of genes. In the case of flowers, a color gene is on each strand. A color gene may be dominant, meaning that is the one that gets expressed even if the other color gene is not the same, or it is recessive, meaning it doesn't get expressed unless there is a gene for that color on both strands.

Sometimes, the color genes are neither dominant or recessive. So if a plant has one gene for red and another for white, the result is a blend of colors, in this case, pink.
Reply:If the trait was codominant, some of the flowers (on the same plant) would be red and some would be white. This trait shows INCOMPLETE DOMINANCE. In codominance, both are expressed equally, but that is not the case in this scenario. The alleles for flower color are both expressed to some degree, resulting in a blend of the dominant and recessive phenotypes. In snapdragons, the R allele codes for some red pigment, but not enough to make the flower deep red by itself. Pure white snapdragons have two white R'R' alleles. Heterozygous snapdragons have one red (R) and one white (R') allele. They has a pink phenotype because the single R allele alone cannot make enough pigment for pure red color.
Reply:This is due to 'co dominance'. If a black labrador dog breeds with a golden labrador, the puppies will be either black or golden. This is due to dominance where one gene is dominant over another. Co dominance occurs where both alleles (types of the same gene) are equally dominant in the heterozygous condition.

Folks, please don't answer if you do not know the correct answer.
Reply:Red + White = Pink.

How do you care for indoor snapdragon flowers?

Honestly, I don't know a thing about caring for flowers, but my boyfriend likes flowers so I want to make an indoor snapdragon garden for him. How do you care for snapdragons? Are the flowers safe to eat? (It says that the flowers are edible on the package of seeds but I don't know if that's a misprint or something.)

I haven't started on the garden yet, I want to have an idea on what i'm doing first.

Any suggestions?

How do you care for indoor snapdragon flowers?
For one thing snap dragons are more a outside then an inside plant. Growing them from seed is one way but do you plan to put them in a window box outside?

First you need a green house setup for the seeds. You can buy one or you can make one using any clear topped carry out tray (like the kind from taco bell 'nacho bell grande').

Put in good potting soil after you put in small drainage slits on the bottom of the tray.

Plant the seeds as instructed or 2" apart in the tray. Cover litely with soil and with a spray bottle from the dollar store spray the soil and seed until wet. Cover then let sit in a partly sunny location.

Once they've sprouted and start to over grow the cover, start training them with out the cover an hour a day to 6 hours to get use to the new environment . Water frequently.

Once they are use to the new environment then get the planter you plan to use and with a large spoon CAREFULLY (from the farthest point of the tray around the edge) gently scoop up the seedling and transplant it into the planter (already having a small hole pre dug to place it in. )

Once that is done make a new green house top using wire and saran wrap. Until they are over the shock of transplanting.

Once they are 2-3 inch's high start training them again in a sunny location with frequent watering's with the spray bottle.

Feed them a half strength water soluble plant food from the spray bottle about once every 2 weeks. If possible leave outside as a window box.
